Absa Cape Epic 2024: A Triumph for ILoveBoobies
March in South Africa heralds the cycling season, attracting hundreds of international athletes to the Cape Town Cycle Tour and the Absa Cape Epic. This year marks the 20th edition of the Absa Cape Epic, and it's our inaugural year as an official charity partner.
Dubbed the "Tour de France of Mountain Biking," the Absa Cape Epic is a grueling test of endurance and teamwork. Teams of two must stay within two minutes of each other as they tackle an 8-day race through the Western Cape. This year's route spans 652 kilometers with 16,000 meters of ascent, equivalent to climbing Mount Everest twice on a bicycle.
The 2024 edition features 726 teams, and the race has already seen its share of drama by the end of Stage 2, with falls, crashes, illness, and mechanical failures taking their toll. Our teams faced these challenges head-on, proudly sporting our new 'Race Around the World' cycling jerseys, which seemed to add a boost to their performance.
We are incredibly proud to share the outstanding results of our representatives:
-
Karl Platt & Tomi Misser: First Place, Masters Men
-
Chantelle Bosch & Jozanne Louw: Third Place, Masters Women
-
Mikayla Benkenstein: Third Place, Amateur Women
-
Hannele Steyn: Second Place, Masters Women and the Last Lioness, having completed every single Epic
In total, five teams and two ambassadors represented ILoveBoobies, achieving four podium positions in the General Classification.
For our first year as an official charity, these results are nothing short of spectacular. We are immensely proud of our athletes and grateful for the support that has made this possible. Here's to many more victories and continued success in the future.
Thank you to everyone who has supported and cheered us on. Together, we are making a difference—one pedal stroke at a time.
With pride and gratitude,
The ILoveBoobies Team
