2 October 2024, South Africa – October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and ILoveBoobies, a non-profit company dedicated to empowering women with access to life-saving breast cancer screenings, is proud to continue its vital mission. Through education, awareness, and free screenings, ILoveBoobies provides comprehensive healthcare options to women in South Africa’s underserved communities, where financial, logistical, and medical access barriers often prevent early detection and treatment.
Since its inception in 2017, ILoveBoobies has screened nearly 10,000 women across South Africa. In 2024 alone, 1,454, women have been screened, with 67 referred for further medical intervention. With mobile screening services expanding across Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng, ILoveBoobies is breaking down barriers to healthcare and ensuring that women in remote areas receive the critical support they need.
“We believe in empowering women with the early detection knowledge and tools they need to take better control of their health,” says Cecil Munch, Director at ILoveBoobies. “By providing free breast cancer screenings and medical diagnostics, we are directly addressing the healthcare gap that exists in some underserved communities.”
ILoveBoobies’ work is made possible through fundraising events, merchandise sales, and partnerships with corporate sponsors. The non-profit’s largest annual fundraiser, the Imagine Challenge, takes place throughout October, with over 9,000 participants joining virtual running, cycling, swimming, and gym challenges. Proceeds from these events help fund screenings for 2,000 women annually, with a portion dedicated to medical referrals and further diagnostic services.
ILoveBoobies is also known for its Gently Used Bra campaign, running from August through October. This initiative collects bras from businesses and individuals, which are gifted to women benefiting from the screening program.
“We are grateful to our community of supporters, who make it possible for us to expand our services and reach more women each year,” adds Cecil Munch. “This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we invite the public to get involved, whether through participating in our events, purchasing our socially conscious merchandise, or simply spreading the word.”
ILoveBoobies offers numerous ways for individuals and companies to support its cause. Businesses can become collection points for the bra campaign or sponsor events, while individuals can participate in the Imagine Challenge or purchase ILoveBoobies merchandise, including their signature socks, which carry a message of 'Do Good, Look Good, Feel Good.'
