PREVENT BREAST CANCER - UK
The Directors of ILoveBoobies, spent 2 weeks in May '23 in the UK learning from mature and experienced charity institutions.
Prevent Breast Cancer is the only UK charity committed solely to predicting and preventing breast cancer.
We met with Nikki Barraclough, CEO & Emma Mellor, Marketing Manager who shared valuable advice on fundraising projects, events, and research.
In the UK the National Health system provides free Mammograms for women over the age of 50 and once every 3 years, Prevent Breast Cancer aims to get that age lowered.
Prevent Breast Cancer is based at The Nightingale Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital and works closely with the staff and researchers based in the building. Prevent Breast Cancer raised £2 million towards the building of The Nightingale Centre – Europe’s first purpose built breast cancer prevention centre. The Nightingale Centre also houses the Family History Clinic, Prevent Breast Cancer Research Unit and many of the clinicians, dietitians and researchers that support our work. The Family History Clinic sees around 2,600 patients a year, and has around 80,000 patients involved in their research studies.
Each year approximately 50,000 patients are screened from the Greater Manchester area and 13,000 appointments are made at The Nightingale Centre.
A team of dedicated breast care nurses are based at The Centre, offering advice and support to patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
Nikki Barraclough and Emma Mellor were very interested to learn about our sustainable model of fundraising through merchandise sales and we hope to work with them going forward. Watch this space.
