Our Purpose

The health of women is not a secondary consideration, nor a favour to be bestowed when circumstances permit.
It is a matter of fundamental importance — to women themselves, to their families, and to the society they so faithfully sustain, and it is this conviction, above all others, that gives ILoveBoobies its purpose.

There are few matters of greater consequence to the happiness and stability of society than
the health of its women; and yet, curiously enough, it is often this very matter that receives
the least attention, particularly where fortune has not been generous and circumstances have
proved unkind.

It is with this understanding that ILoveBoobies has undertaken its most important mission: to
provide free breast examinations, screening and diagnostic support to the women of South
Africa who, whether through financial hardship, geographical distance, or social
circumstance, might otherwise be deprived of such essential care.

For a woman’s influence upon the world is rarely confined to herself. Within the
communities we serve, she is frequently the heart of her family, the guardian of its well-being, and the quiet force upon which the happiness of those around her so often depends.
She is a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a friend; and it would be difficult to determine
whether society owes more to her affection, her perseverance, or her remarkable capacity to
place the needs of others before her own.
And herein lies a rather unfortunate contradiction: the very women upon whom so much
depends are often those least able to obtain the care they require.
A woman may postpone an examination because the expense is beyond her means. She may
disregard a worrying discovery because the nearest medical facility is inconveniently far
away. Or she may allow fear, uncertainty, or the demands of daily life to persuade her that
her own well-being must wait upon that of everyone else.
Such circumstances are not uncommon, nor should they be accepted as inevitable.
Indeed, it is our firm belief that a woman ought not to require wealth, privilege, or an
extraordinary degree of courage merely to take reasonable care of her health.
By providing free breast examinations and encouraging women to understand their bodies,
recognise possible warning signs, and seek further medical attention when necessary,
ILoveBoobies seeks to remove some of the obstacles that have too long stood between
women and the care they deserve.

The advantages of such an undertaking extend considerably beyond the examination room. A
woman who is informed is better equipped to make decisions. A woman who is encouraged
to act is less likely to remain paralysed by uncertainty. And a woman who has access to
appropriate care is afforded a greater opportunity to protect not only her own future, but also
the future of those who depend upon her.
For when a woman is well, her family is better placed to flourish; when she is confident in
her knowledge, she may share that confidence with others; and when she is given the
opportunity to improve her circumstances, the benefits may be felt throughout the
community.
It is, perhaps, a truth worth remembering that the strength of a society cannot be measured
solely by the prosperity of its wealthiest members, but must also be judged by the care it
extends to those who have the least.
To give a woman access to breast health care is not merely an act of kindness; it is an
affirmation of her dignity, her importance, and her right to a future in which her own
well-being is considered worthy of attention.

At ILoveBoobies, we wish to see women equipped not only with access to examinations, but
also with the knowledge, confidence, and determination to act in the interests of their health.
We wish them to be free from unnecessary fear, better prepared to recognise when something
may be wrong, and empowered to pursue the solutions available to them.
For every woman has ambitions beyond the duties she performs for others. She has hopes of
her own, talents yet to be exercised, and a life whose possibilities ought not to be
unnecessarily diminished by a condition that may benefit from timely attention.
Our purpose, therefore, is not simply to provide a service, but to help create circumstances in
which women may enjoy better health, greater confidence, and a fairer opportunity to fulfil
their potential.
And if, by our efforts, a woman is encouraged to seek help she might otherwise have avoided,
a family is spared unnecessary suffering, or a community grows stronger through the
improved well-being of its women, then we may consider our work to have achieved
something of genuine value.
For the health of women is not a secondary consideration, nor a favour to be bestowed
when circumstances permit. It is a matter of fundamental importance — to women
themselves, to their families, and to the society they so faithfully sustain.
And it is this conviction, above all others, that gives ILoveBoobies its purpose.
