BOTRIVIER SCREENING
Tuesday 11th July
We were back at Botrivier this week to provide any of the ladies whom we had missed from our last visit, with a free breast health screening. A total of 55 ladies attended the outreach.
Having been at the venue before, we made short work of setting up and quickly got to work screening the ladies. We had 2 nurses, sisters Gail du Plooy and Carla Bezuidenhout, who made the time to attend the screening and assist us with the screening process. They took their time explaining what we would be doing for the ladies before taking them to separate rooms for the examination process. Each lady was handled with care and allowed to ask questions of the nurses in private and be examined for any warning signs of breast cancer. Each of the ladies was dealt with kindness and respect, and after their screening, were given a pair of ILoveBoobies socks as a thank-you and a reminder to screen themselves once a month.
Our breast cancer screening outreach in Botriver resulted in 96 ladies being screened with 13 ladies being referred to radiology for further diagnosis and a treatment pathway.Fundraisers from the mountain bike races - Wines2Whales and Absa Cape Epic enabled the screening service in Botriver.
The along-the-route screening programme is a great way to give back to the communities that the races travel through.
