The Race Between the Races

Every year, thousands of runners dream of taking part in the iconic Two Oceans Marathon and the Cape Town Marathon. But with limited entries, qualifying standards and travel costs, not everyone gets the chance.

That's why we created the 120 Challenge.

Beginning on the same day as the Two Oceans Marathon and finishing on Cape Town Marathon weekend, the 120 Challenge gives anyone, anywhere in the world, the opportunity to be part of South Africa's biggest running season.

No ballot.

No qualifying time.

No cut-off.

Just one challenge: complete 120 kilometres by walking, hiking or running over six weeks.

Whether you covered your distance on the streets of Johannesburg, the beaches of Cape Town, a hiking trail in the Drakensberg or a park on the other side of the world, every kilometre counted.

And every entry made an even bigger difference.

Unlike traditional races, the 120 Challenge isn't about medals or finishing positions. Every entry funds a free clinical breast health screening for a woman who wouldn't otherwise have access to one.

This year, more than 8,500 participants joined the challenge, turning South Africa's marathon season into a global movement for good.

Families walked together. Friends trained for bigger races. First-time runners discovered a new love for movement. Experienced athletes used the challenge as the perfect bridge between Two Oceans and the Cape Town Marathon.

Most importantly, thousands of women will now receive access to potentially life-saving breast health screenings because people chose to move with purpose.

The 120 Challenge proves that you don't need to stand on a famous start line to make your kilometres matter.

Sometimes the most meaningful finish line is the one that helps someone else.
