Today I want to honour the strongest woman I know—my mother.
You are not defined by your battle with breast cancer, but by the courage, grace, and unshakable spirit with which you face it. Every day you show me what true strength looks like.

Your laughter, even in the hardest moments, inspires hope.
Your determination teaches me resilience.
Your love reminds me that even in times of struggle, beauty still shines through.

**🌸 A Dedication of Love, Loss, and Triumph 🌸**

To my beloved Aunty Sandra,
Your grace, laughter, and unwavering spirit lit up every room you entered. Though breast cancer took you from us far too soon, your legacy remains etched in our hearts. You taught us how to love fiercely, live boldly, and face adversity with elegance. I carry your strength with me every day.

To my incredible Dad,
You were my anchor, my teacher, my hero. Pancreatic cancer may have stolen your presence, but it could never touch the wisdom you shared or the love you gave. Your courage in the face of pain was nothing short of extraordinary. I miss you deeply, but I walk forward with your voice in my heart.

To my friends who are survivors of breast cancer,
You are warriors. You’ve stared down fear and emerged with resilience, hope, and a renewed zest for life. Your journey inspires me, and your strength uplifts everyone lucky enough to know you. You are living proof that courage can bloom even in the darkest soil.

This dedication is a tapestry woven from grief, love, and hope. It’s for those we’ve lost, those who fight, and those who survive. You are all part of my story—and I honor you with every breath I take.

Myself

I met my younger self for coffee.
She hurried in, anxious, only 17, carrying the weight of a new lump in her breast. I, ten years older, sat beside her and whispered, it’s okay.
She cried, saying she was too young. I told her again, it’s okay.
She faced scans, tests, and fear. The lump was a tumor, 9cm, but I reminded her: it’s gone now.
For years she lived with it, nearly 30 scans, endless worry. But today, she is free. Three years tumor-free, scarred yet redeemed.
She was the girl with a tumor.
Now, she is the woman who survived. She is the woman who trusted God through it all.

This year, the I Love Boobies Imagine Challenge carries a very personal meaning for me.💗

Earlier this year, I went through 3 sonars, 3 mammograms and a breast biopsy, but was fortunate enough to walk away with no trace of cancer. I am so grateful - but the experience also frightened me in many ways. It reminded me how fragile life can be, and how quickly everything can change.

Cancer does not discriminate. It affects women and men, the young and the old, and it leaves no life untouched. That’s why awareness, screening, and early detection are so important - it gives us a fighting chance.

By taking part in this challenge, I am choosing to move for change - to care for my own health while helping others access screenings and tests that could save their lives.

This year, I am also doing Sober October throughout the month, in memory of a very special person we have lost to cancer. It’s our way of honouring her life, her fight, and her legacy.

This challenge is more than just movement - it’s about awareness, remembrance, and hope. It’s about standing together against cancer and keeping the stories of those we love alive.

This year I am doing the 63.3km Ultra Run/Walk.
🙌

Here’s to moving forward, remembering those we’ve lost, celebrating survivors, and supporting those still fighting.

I dedicate this to my beautiful sister, Ali, who fought so hard and so bravely for many years and who we miss daily.

Liezl Bouwer

My grandmother that passed away on 27 August this year. She was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago.

On 27 August, I said goodbye to one of the strongest women I have ever known, my grandmother, Catrien van Tonder. For ten years, she faced breast cancer with grace, courage, and unwavering resilience. Though it wasn’t the cancer that took her in the end, it was her strength throughout that journey that continues to inspire me every day.

The Imagine Challenge is my tribute to her spirit. Every step I take, every kilometre I cycle, every moment I push through - I do it in her honour. She taught me that strength isn’t just physical, it is found in perseverance, in love, and in the quiet moments of bravery.

I carry her memory with me, and throughout this challenge, I celebrate her life, her fight, and the legacy of courage she left behind.
